Isle I Do: Three Officials....One Wedding

Three Officials....One Wedding
Alex and Mandy share the details of thier unique wedding
Ironically, singing a song that begins "You say that we've got nothing in common" is what took Alex and Mandy from friends to forever. Luckily, instead of having "Breakfast at Tiffany's", this (oh-please-we're-like-brother-and-sister) duet began spending more time together as a couple. Yes, there would be many more harmonies to sing and over the years, Alex and Mandy's relationship has developed from friends in the schoolyard to a beautifully complex marriage that seamlessly blends race, religions and an undying love for music. With a movie-like engagement and a wedding that was by all means extraordinary, Alex and Mandy are the rock-stars in their very own love song.
Isle I Do: When did the fireworks start happening?
Mandy: One night I went to Lord Willoughby's Tavern and Alex was there. And as usual when we met, we talked about old times at school.
Alex: Yeah, but that night Gar-V was playing and he spotted me and called me up to sing a song. So I brought her on stage with me because I knew she could sing too.
IID: Oooh, a duet. But didn't it catch you off guard when he did that?
M: Not really, I've been singing for a long time and we all knew each other from school.
IID: What did you guys sing?
A: We sang "Breakfast at Tiffany's", but Gar-V only had one mic. So our faces were like two inches apart while we were singing this song about breaking up.
M: And we had both come out of relationships few months before, so we really connected with the song. We sounded good too! It was like if we rehearsed it.
IID: So the sparks were flying!
A: Not really, but we did have our first real conversation after that.
M: We talked about us. Not about school or what we used to do, we talked about our lives and interests.
A: I was surprised that there was so much about her that I did not know.
M: Then I told him that we needed to spend the next day together to catch up.
IID: Wow, you NEEDED to spend the next day together, I like that.
A: The next day I picked her up and we decided to 'get lost'.
M: We drove and drove, then we found ourselves on East Coast Road and we took walk on the beach. We had dinner at Lord Willoughby's then we went to Batts Rock and ended up in a gazebo at UWI until like 2 am.
A: That was when I first asked her out on a real date.
M: He was so nervous that he was staring at a light pole, but I said yes. When we got home we talked another hour on the phone.
IID: Then you finally got together.
A: It wasn't official yet, but yes.
IID: And the relationship went to the next level?
A: After 8 months we moved in together. We knew we were going to get married because we always talked about it so after about a year and a half I decided to buy the ring.
M: This one morning, I had just finished pressing and was going in the bathroom but he had himself locked in. I was surprised because we usually don't lock doors in our house. Little did I know, he was in there trying on all of my rings to see how they fit his fingers so he could get my ring-size.
IID: (Laughs) Wait till she's busy then hide in the bathroom, very suave.
A: But it worked! (smiles)
IID: How did you pop the question?
A: I asked her after I got her parent's permission.
M: I was having a really great day, so when he proposed that made it even more special.
A: That night I was performing with Gar-V-we played together as Garlex- at the Opa Restaurant, so I called a few people and told them that I was going to propose to Mandy. Apparently those people called some more people and before you know it all of our friends came, even the ones that we hardly see. Thankfully, no one told Mandy.
M: When I got there I was surprised to see everyone. I just thought it was a really good turn out. I had no clue.
A: She usually sings a few songs with us so I told everyone that I was going to propose to her after she sang.
M: It was funny because when I went on stage, it was like a mad dash, literally everyone ran over. I was like, 'okay'...
