The 5 most romantic places in Bridgetown
One of the Caribbean's Top Romance Capitals.
A day of walking hand-in-hand through the historic City of Bridgetown is an experience that shouldn’t be missed. As the Capital of Barbados, Bridgetown is filled with all the sights and sounds of true Barbadian culture. Hear the alluring call of vendors as you stroll through Swan Street. Visit the exquisite duty-free shops on Broad Street and sample our delicious Bajan cuisine from the surrounding restaurants.
A fitting conclusion to your day of sightseeing is to enjoy a beautiful sunset together while you smile and talk about how much fun you’re having. So just relax and enjoy because Bridgetown has perfect spots for romance as well.
Independence Square
Nestled between the Chamberlain Bridge and the Charles Duncan O’Neale Bridge is the modernized Independence Square. Ironically located in the ‘heart’ of the City, this centre of national pride has become a popular lover’s lane after its redevelopment in 2006. Overlooking the sparkling waters of the Old Bridgetown Port (locally known as the Careenage) this historic Square is also home to a bronze statue of Barbados’ first Prime Minister, Errol Walton Barrow. Lush floral gardens and delightful water fountains further compliment this slice of Barbadian pride and industry.
The Board Walk
A stroll across the Chamberlain Bridge would take you to the Boardwalk. This wooden walkway stretches along Wharf Road and hugs the northern border of the Careenage. Here you can sit and admire the orange glow of a true Barbadian sunset or take a moonlit walk under the stars after hours. Illuminated by the city lights, during the night this romantic corner of Bridgetown is the perfect spot to relax after a wonderful dinner.
Trevor's Way
See the splashing waves as they break along the coastal barrier of Trevor’s Way and get a wonderful view of the spectacular Barbadian sunset. Redeveloped in 2004, this romantic oasis sits right outside the Bridgetown Port’s Cruise Terminal, adjacent to the Pelican Craft Centre. Here couples can be embraced by the crisp, salty air of the Caribbean Sea as they sit and watch the catamarans and fishing vessels sailing past on their daily rounds. The cobbled footpath that meanders throughout the length of Trevor’s Way is shaded by a colorful display of tropical plants, vegetation and exotic flowers.
Queen's Park
Although Queen’s Park is located on the outskirts of the inner-city, its cool and tranquil ambience is reminiscent of the Barbadian countryside.
As a former base of operations for the British military, this historical venue is still surrounded by an old-fashioned cast iron fence that almost wraps around the entire circumference of the park.
Blossomed hedges and trees make up an interior border that separates the busy life of Bridgetown from the peaceful interior. The long pathway that stretches between two of the three entrances is enhanced by several large flower pots and it will take you to any cozy little spot of this expansive retreat.
Bay Street Esplanade
Feel the grains of sand between your toes while you walk along the coastline of Brown’s Beach as the sun dips quietly behind the silhouetted yachts offshore. Located across the street from the Sir Frank Walcott Building on Bay Street, this esplanade provides a picturesque view of the outer curvature of the City away from all the hustle and bustle.
